New toe rails were laminated out of thin strips of mahogany according to a pattern made from one of the old rails.
The author removed his Chris-Craft’s engine for rebuilding by a local shop. All hardware removed was placed in plastic bags and carefully labeled. The engine’s absence made stripping, cleaning, and refinishing the boat’s interior much easier.
Inch-thick white oak was used for the semi-dory’s thwart knees. When one knee split across the grain, it was repaired with epoxy and a screw.
