Book Ideas
Devereux
Books actively seeks manuscripts or book ideas from published
authors or would-be authors. Our areas of interest include: how-to
books about sailing, motor boating, boat-building and repair,
and related topics. We’re also interested in ideas for
broadly-based books about recreational and work boat history,
internal combustion engines, memoirs that would have appeal to
a general audience and topics that might relate in general to
any of the above. Please note that we do not publish fiction
or academic-oriented works.
If you have an idea for a book that fits the above areas, please
submit a proposal. While we prefer to receive proposals as hard
copy in the mail, you may email. Proposals must include the following:
- Preliminary
title
- Preliminary
Table of Contents
- Description
of the book
- Preliminary
introduction
- Sample
chapter
- The Market
for the book (What groups/individuals are likely to be interested;
the more specific the better.)
- What other
books exist on the topic including a brief critique and how
your book would differ.
- Your qualifications
Remember – book
ideas are easier to talk about than they are to commit to paper.
The proposal is a structured way to judge one’s idea and
market potential. We generally respond to proposals within two
to four weeks. Note that we do work with subject matter experts
who may have little or no writing experience. |
